Dr. John Simpson, founder of Avon Lake Animal Clinic, began practicing veterinary medicine in Avon Lake on a mobile basis in 1963, and two years later built a new building on Miller Road. Over the following thirty years, Dr. Simpson built his practice to include himself and three other veterinarians supported by thirty lay staff. In 1995 Dr. Jim Haddad purchased Avon Lake Animal Clinic, and his since grown the practice to include eight veterinarians and approximately sixty-five supporting staff members. We met recently with Dr. Haddad and partners Dr. Frank Krupka and Dr. Julie Letosky, and listened as they described the services Avon Lake Animal Clinic has to offer;

Avon Lake Animal Clinic is one of the largest veterinary practices in Northeast Ohio providing full-service care for cats, dogs, exotics, birds, reptiles, and pocket pets. In addition to complete veterinary services, including preventative medicine, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, endoscopy, ultrasound, and dentistry, we also offer boarding, day care, and grooming services. We have our own in-house laboratory, and provide twenty-four hour a day emergency service. Although we are certainly a technologically advanced facility, we still believe in the old-fashioned principles of compassion and caring.

Due to our size we are set apart from other veterinary practices by our ability to be available when other practices are closed. With eight veterinarians on staff, we always have a doctor on call overnight, and we have technicians available twenty-four hours a day to monitor the progress of pets after surgery. Each of our veterinarians has a specific area of special interest, giving us the ability to provide comprehensive medical care for a wide variety of conditions.

Our modern, 14,000 square foot facility includes seven exam rooms, large surgical suites, and a park-like setting in the waiting room area that includes benches around the perimeter and a large tree that extends almost two stories to the ceiling. Across the street we have a 4,000 square foot boarding and grooming facility, and within the next year we should be completed with the addition of a 30,000 square foot pet resort and daycare spa. This new facility will include artificial turf, an indoor lazy river swimming pool, uniquely designed suites, and large, grassy, patio-type runs that will give the pets the experience of being outdoors while still being indoors. In addition, we will be dedicating 1,000 square feet to housing a dog apparel business that will feature upscale clothing designed specifically for man's best friend.
