Deborah Doherty's passion for art began many years ago. An Avon Lake resident, she has taken many art classes that have enabled her to develop a very impressive skill-set. In 1996, Deborah founded Custom Wall Designs to provide local homeowners and businesses with faux finishes that bring their walls and furniture to life. Custom Wall Designs specializes in faux finishes on walls and furniture, color matching and design work, murals, and stenciling, in addition to wallpaper removal, wall repair, and painting. I offer consulting services for those wanting to handle their own projects, and always provide my customers with free estimates. I am very passionate about my painting, and love using my fifteen years experience to provide my customers with distinctive art work custom-designed to compliment their existing decor and their individual personalities.
I supply all of my own materials and cover everything to protect the surrounding carpeting and furniture. I prefer to use top quality Sherwin Williams' paints, but will work with other brands if my customers prefer. Occasionally I will employ a helper on larger projects, but most of the time I do all of the work myself.
Each project is custom-designed around my customers' personal preferences, and I always prepare samples of the finishes I am going to do so they will know in advance exactly how the completed project will look. When I am asked to paint a mural, I can work from a photograph or a picture found in a book or on the Internet, making changes to suit my customers' wishes.
Once a month I demonstrate various faux finishing techniques at the Avon Lake Sherwin Williams store. These sessions, usually held in the evenings or on a Saturday, are open to the public. I demonstrate a wide variety of faux finishing techniques, answer questions, and everyone has a really great time.
