Kristin Perry began dancing at the tender young age of four. Always intrigued by the art of dance, she knew her destiny was having her own studio. Kristin attended Baldwin Wallace College where she earned her Bachelors in Health and Physical Education with minors in dance and business, after which she founded Miss Kristin's Dance Studio in the fall of 1992. Her very first year she taught 53 students, and has since grown the studio to a yearly enrollment of over 300. We met with Kristin recently, and listened as she provided this overview of Miss Kristin's Dance Studio's offerings;
Miss Kristin's Dance Studio offers dance lessons for students from three years of age through senior citizens. We teach ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip-hop, and lyrical. Not only do we teach our students the fundamentals of dance, they also gain self-confidence, develop poise and grace, and begin to understand and develop an appreciation of music. We also offer a retail store where we sell dance shoes, leotards, tights, skirts, and Miss Kristin's Dance Wear.
Registration begins in early August for fall classes that start right after Labor Day. We host recitals every other year, and have scheduled our 2008 recital for mid-June. We also offer a six week summer program in addition to our nine month school year session.
In addition to myself, Miss Kristin's Dance Studio employs six other instructors. Three of us attend teacher training school for Dance Educators of America (DEA) each year, and as of this summer two of us will be formally certified in five different areas of dance.
We currently have three competition dance teams. Our mini-team is for students between eight and nine years old, our junior team is for dancers between ten and twelve years of age, and our senior team is for those thirteen years old and over. Auditions are held annually and we train all year long. We start with the summer workshops, learn the choreography in the fall, and participate in competitions from January through late April.
On September 1, 2007 we will be moving into a brand new, 7,800 square foot facility with three different sized dance rooms. We will be introducing a new hip-hop program, a cardio and fitness program, tumbling classes, and ballroom dancing classes. We are very excited about the move and would like to invite all dancers and aspiring dancers, regardless of their age or skill level, to come dance with us!
