Novotny Catering

In 1960 Wilbur J. Novotny founded Novotny Catering out of his home on Electric Blvd. in Avon Lake, Ohio. His sons, Del and Dave Novotny, began helping their father in his business from the time they were old enough to carry dishes and wash pots and pans. In 1982 Del assumed ownership of the family business and after being joined in business by his brother Dave moved Novotny Catering to 143 Lear Road. We met with Del and Dave recently, and listened as they provided this overview of the services Novotny Catering offers;

Novotny Catering is a full-service off-premise catering company. We offer full party service where we provide our customers with everything from their meal to the serving staff in addition to preparing food for pick-up or delivery. We offer a good, top quality meal at an affordable price, and take pride in exceeding our customers expectations.

We serve parties ranging in size from 30 to 1,000 guests. The typical party size is between 50-200 guests, although we also prepare pick-up orders for parties of 15 or 20 guests. Many of our customers are hosting get-togethers and do not want to prepare the entire meal themselves. They often come to us for an entrée, a couple of side dishes, or their appetizers and we are happy to help them with their needs.

We have a wide selection of traditional menu packages available, although we are always willing to design a custom menu specifically to our customers' tastes and preferences. Occasionally customers will request that we work from their own favorite recipes, and quite often we are asked to arrange a menu based on the theme of their function.

As an off-premise catering company, we have the capability of handling three to four functions a day. Wedding receptions are usually booked a year in advance, although we may still have dates open a couple of months prior to the event. For smaller functions we appreciate having a week or two weeks advance notice, but we can generally respond with only a couple days' notice for funeral receptions and other unexpected events.
