Unlike typical empty nesters left with a large home occupied only by memories of the past, Denny and Bobbie Potonic have combined a beautiful home with their love for people to create a never ending supply of house guests. With three grown children and five grandchildren, Denny and Bobbie realized their home on scenic Lake Erie possessed a unique appeal that could become the foundation for a new career. Frequent guests of bed and breakfast inn's over the years, they decided to open the doors of their home to traveling guests, and founded SunSet Shores Bed & Breakfast in August 2002. Advertising their business on the Internet, they found immediate success with guests from Illinois on their very first day. We met with Denny and Bobbie recently, and listened as they described the scenic peace and tranquility available at SunSet Shores Bed & Breakfast;
SunSet Shores Bed & Breakfast offers two comfortable second floor guest rooms and a third floor guest suite, each with its own private bath, overlooking the ever-changing waters of Lake Erie. Each room has a queen size bed, television, VCR, air conditioner, and a picture window view of the lake. We serve an extended continental breakfast each morning that includes ham or sausage, cereal, eggs, bagels, pancakes, yogurt, fruit, English muffins, and occasionally scones.
Located in a residential area down a tree lined lane, SunSet Shores Bed & Breakfast is a century old house away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our guests have use of our landscaped yard, deck, and gliders overlooking the lake. They can fish, sun bathe, visit the public park complete with beaches, or spend their time pursuing other adventures.
We are eighteen miles from downtown Cleveland where you can visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or attend a Cleveland Indians or Browns game. Cedar Point amusement park is only forty-five minutes from our door, and we are very close to University Circle's museums, Little Italy, the islands, and Wayne County's Amish attractions. Avon Lake has two wineries you can tour, the True North Cultural and Performing Arts Center, and many other local attractions.
We have had the pleasure of entertaining guests from three quarters of the United States and eighteen foreign countries. Our guests come from all walks of life ranging from truck drivers to doctors and lawyers, college students to others like us who have finished their careers but still remain active. Everyone is so interesting and we love to visit with them and hear their stories. We may discuss their children and grandchildren, our experiences, the community of Avon Lake, the Save the Woods project, or the local theater group, but each conversation is a treasure and we feel blessed to be sharing our home with so many interesting guests.
We have journals in each room where our guests are encouraged to leave comments about their stay. Most of them say they really enjoy the gentle sound of the waves and the beautiful sunsets, and they are pleased to find such a calming, quiet place where they can relax and enjoy themselves. Others write that they can't wait to come back next year to do it again!
