The Catholic Credit Union was founded in 1957 to serve the members of St. Joseph Church in Avon Lake, Ohio. Originally operating from a card table in the vestibule of the church, the credit union offers members a place to save and borrow without the traditional high costs of most banks and other financial institutions. We met recently with Managers Ellen Hill and Lorelei Kilbane, and listened as they explained why it pays to be a member of The Catholic Credit Union;
The Catholic Credit Union is a full-service credit union offering many of the same products you will find at other financial institutions without all the costly fees. Our members have access to free interest bearing checking accounts, savings accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), IRAs, Christmas Club accounts, and debit cards, in addition to home equity loans, signature loans requiring no collateral, and loans for new and used automobiles, boats, and recreational vehicles. Along with all of the time and money saving products we offer our members, we also provide the fast, friendly, and reliable service our members have come to expect.
Membership in The Catholic Credit Union is available to all members of St. Joseph Church and Holy Spirit Parish in Avon Lake, Holy Trinity Church and St. Mary Immaculate Conception in Avon, St. Teresa Church in Sheffield Village, and St. Thomas Church in Sheffield Lake. You become a member by opening a share savings account with a minimum $25.00 deposit, which represents your ownership share in the credit union. Once your share savings account is open, you can then take advantage of all the various services we offer. Your membership in The Catholic Credit Union entitles your family members, regardless of their religious affiliation, to become members and enjoy the same benefits, also.
As a non-profit organization, The Catholic Credit Union does not have to generate a profit for shareholders. Instead, we return our earnings to our members in the form of higher dividend rates on deposits, lower loan rates, and fewer fees and costs. Our VISA card offers a 9.9% fixed rate, and our checking accounts include fifty free checks, no minimum balance, monthly dividends, overdraft protection, and no "per check" fee. All accounts at The Catholic Credit Union are federally insured up to $100,000.00 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUA).
Our mission is to serve the financial health of the member parishes in order that their spiritual needs may not be hindered by financial burdens. The Catholic Credit Union is run by the members, for the members, meaning you benefit when we succeed!
